In this Article, We will know about 4 Different Ways to See Deleted Reddit Posts. Please like and share if You are interested!
While Reddit won’t show deleted topics to users, you can easily view deleted Reddit posts and comments when you want.
Main lesson
- Despite changes to Reddit’s API in 2023, there are still ways to view deleted threads and comments on the platform using tools like Reveddit, Resavr, Wayback Machine, and Google Cache.
- Reveddit allows users to search for deleted threads and comments by entering a username, subreddit name, or thread link, but it only displays comments that have been deleted by moderators.
- Wayback Machine and Google Cache can also be used to access deleted Reddit content, but they may not always store the specific topics or comments users are looking for. Proper URL cleaning is essential when using the Wayback Machine.
MUO VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE CONTENT
When you’re browsing Reddit, finding a deleted post with tons of upvotes is frustrating. One glance at the thread title and your curiosity takes over, making you wonder how awesome it would be if you could time travel to the past and see the content of the deleted thread.
Well, that’s impossible—just the time travel part. We’ll show you four different ways to view old, deleted Reddit posts and comments so you can satisfy your curiosity.
Can you still view deleted Reddit threads?
In April 2023, Reddit introduced some important changes to the way developers interact with their API, essentially pricing their previously free API. Disagreeing with Reddit’s decision, several major subreddits went dark as a form of community protest.
This price change has caused many third-party apps, including those that let you view deleted Reddit threads, to stop working. As a result, many of these apps may not be active currently, and those that do will only fetch comments and topics published before the API change took effect, i.e. June 2023.
However, don’t be discouraged. There are still ways to view deleted Reddit posts, including the Wayback Machine and Google’s cache. Short answer? Yes, it is still possible to view deleted Reddit threads and comments.
1. Revedit
When you visit reveddit.com, you will only find a single text field where you can enter your username, subreddit name, or link to the topic.
When specifying a subreddit name, Reveddit will list all deleted topics and comments posted in that subreddit. You can then browse through the results to find anything that catches your attention, or simply search for what you want using the other search options.
You can enter URLs for both specific posts and topics. Alternatively, you can simply replace “reddit” in the URL string with “reveddit” and it will take you to the same Reveddit website.
Reveddit fetches data from the Pushshift repository and displays it in the old Reddit-like interface. Pushshift is a social media tracking and data collection platform that has hosted Reddit data since 2015.
If you want to see all the deleted comments of a post, you will have to wait a while for Reveddit to load the data. However, there is a quick way if you want to see a specific comment directly in a thread. You can specify a direct link to the thread containing the deleted comment and Reveddit will just fetch and load that string from the archive.
The only drawback? Reveddit does not show comments deleted by users. You can only view comments that have been deleted by the subreddit’s moderators.
2. Resavr
Resavr may not be the best site to search for deleted Reddit content because it does not allow you to view deleted posts. It’s a site entirely dedicated to viewing deleted comments. Another problem is that you can’t search for a specific thread by its link to see the deleted comment you’re looking for.
The resavr.com interface is quite simple. It lists recently deleted Reddit comments and is a great site for those who just want to pass the time by reading deleted comments. It links back to the original deleted Reddit thread so you can go ahead and view the entire post to understand the context behind it.
3. The machine goes back and forth
Also known as the Internet Archive, the Wayback Machine archives the entire internet, including Reddit. If the aforementioned tools don’t show the deleted Reddit content, you can visit the Wayback Machine in the hope that it may have archived the comment you were looking forward to reading.
To get started, go to web.archive.org and enter the URL of the Reddit post you want to see. First, make sure to clean the URL by removing any unnecessary HTTP parameters at the end.
The website will display the snapshots recorded on a calendar. If there is a suitable snapshot, you can click on the date the snapshot was recorded and view the web page.
If a user/moderator deletes a comment or thread before the Wayback Machine can archive it, it will display the comments as deleted.
4. Google caching
Similar to the Wayback Machine, Google also indexes web pages and saves cached versions of those pages to display to users. You can also view deleted comments and posts on Reddit using Google’s cache.
To get started, search for Reddit posts using the topic title. When you find the post on the search engine results page, click the three-dot icon next to the result. Click the down arrow to expand the More Options list. If you find an option labeled Cached, it means Google has a cached version of that page and you can view it by clicking on it.
If you’re lucky, the deleted thread or comment you want to see will still be there and you can read it before Google recrawls and saves a new version of the page. Obviously, this only works with recently deleted comments, as Reddit is a popular social media site and Google crawls it at breakneck speed and updates pages saved in caching quite frequently.
Reddit is home to some great conversations!
Viewing deleted comments and posts on Reddit may seem inappropriate at first because someone deleted them for some reason. Lots of websites allow you to dig into data and recover deleted Reddit threads. It is very useful when you want to restore a deleted Reddit comment that you accidentally deleted.
With Reddit’s rudimentary search function, chances are you’ve spent hours looking for a topic you’ve read about before but never found it again. A user may have deleted the post, or you may be browsing the site incorrectly. Therefore, learning how to browse the internet is very important, especially on a platform like Reddit where thousands of new topics are published every hour.
