Chris Rock Faces Jigsaw Copycat in First Trailer for ‘Spiral’ 2023

You cannot keep a good brand low. Afterward 3D saw billed as the final film in the franchise, Lionsgate’s has opened its wallet and ordered one more film, the horror film puzzle. Four years later and we have another entry into this never-ending horror thrill ride with spiral: From tMr. Sach Saw.

Unlike previous films, the brutal killer Jigsaw is no more, with a new copycat killer coming up with even crazier ways to kill. This time the film focuses on Chris Rock’s Detective Ezekiel Banks, who we see in the trailer has just been sent a mysterious recording. As the bodies pile up and his fellow officers go missing, Banks must fight against time to find out who the killers are and why they targeted him.

If the trailer is anything to go by, this looks like another interesting chapter in Saw legend. Seeing Rock – who is also an executive producer – in a horror movie isn’t what you’d expect, but it’s nice to see him in a more dramatic role.

Rock will be joined by Samuel L Jackson, who plays his father, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols and Zoie Palmer. Director and franchise creator Darren Lynn Bousman returns behind the camera while the film will have a hip-hop soundtrack with new music from 21 Savage and Slaughter Gang, including new singles spiral.

“I am a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004,” Rock said in a statement. “I’m excited about the opportunity to take this to a really intense and difficult new place.”

Spiral: From the Saw Book will hit theaters on May 14.
