Love is Blind creator Chris Colleen is denying allegations from former contestants about harsh conditions on set.
Former Love is Blind contestants have criticized the popular dating series for the “prison-like” conditions allegedly forced upon its cast.
While the purpose of the dating series is for people to seek a lifelong marriage, more contestants come out of the experience more miserable than ever before.
According to Nick Thompson, who stars in season 2 of Love is Blind, participating in the series is like being held “prisoner.” The cast were denied cell phones, TV access, Wi-Fi and were even allegedly denied food and water for long periods of time.
Chris Coleen, author of Love is Blind, called the claims “crazy.”
Love is Blind creator calls accusations from former contestants “crazy”
After countless complaints against Love is Blind, creator Chris Colleen has come out to defend his TV show. In response to the notion that contestants were practically “held prisoner,” he called the allegation “crazy.”
“We told them they wouldn’t be able to move around freely while in the capsule,” Chris told Variety. “We tell them they will not have phone, TV or internet service in their cabins or in the hotel rooms where they stay or on romantic getaways.”
According to Chris, the reason these conditions are in place is to “protect the integrity of the experiment.”
“You are required to stay at your hotel to protect the integrity of the experiment,” the series creator told the outlet. “We disconnect their phones and internet so they can’t go online because people want to look for people.”
As for die-hard fans of the show, they don’t believe Chris’s claims. Instead, most fans sided with the cast this time.
“I trust the cast in this movie,” one fan wrote on the Love is Blind subreddit. “Reality TV shows have manipulated and coerced contestants since their inception.”
Another fan agreed, writing: “Of course he defends it, because if this goes sideways, [there’s] no more kinetic content (they are always shady).”
Stay tuned for more Love is Blind only on Netflix.
