The TikToker’s quick thinking has led to “amazing” reactions to the hot calls that many Internet users now think they’ll have to try for themselves.
According to research by ILR and Hollaback!, 85% of women in the United States have experienced some form of street harassment before the age of 17.
One of the most common forms of street harassment is catcalling, defined as unwelcome comments or sounds that are considered rude or insulting.
When it comes to handling these unwanted comments, there are many ways to go, from clapping back with an insult to simply ignoring the caller. And now, one TikToker has given viewers an “amazing” comeback that has them swearing they’ll use it the next time they encounter any unwanted attention.
TikToker and model Daphne Berry, who goes by the nickname ‘berridaph’ on the platform, posted a video recounting the incident. “This man just called me in front of a construction site,” she said.
Not letting the man escape the harassment, Daphne shouted back: “Sorry, I don’t have any change.” Her quick thinking caused the man’s co-workers to laugh, who then began “pointing” at the man and making him “feel bad.”
Viewers called her answer “genius,” with one person writing: “Next time I will do this.” Someone even gave their own suggestion: “One of the [favorite] people say they say something funny when they tell me to smile. They always look strangely confused.”
However, others pointed out that they would not feel safe clapping back at a bully; “I will do this but I am not ready to die.”
Another said: “The way you told the story sounds good. But not so with attraction and unwanted attention from men.”
