Two Michael Jordan Rookie Cards Fetch $738K Each at Auction 2023

Trading cards have become big business in recent years. No longer something children collect for fun, trading cards can be as profitable as the stock market. Case in point: Gold auction.

Over the weekend, sports memorabilia experts earned a record $33 million from sports goods. The majority of these are from trading cards. The top seller was an Anthony Davis autographed rookie card for $1.05 million. But what excited the Next Luxury office was the sale of two Michael Jordan rookie cards.

1986-87 Fleer rookie cards, depicting his mid-Airness shot, sold for a staggering $738,000 each. Yes, you read that right. Two pieces of laminated card cost 1.47 million USD! Both cards are rated Gem Mint PSA 10, meaning they are in pristine condition, which should command a premium price.

What makes the sale of these two cards even more notable is the sudden price increase. Just a month ago, a PSA 10 Jordan rookie card went for just $217,000 on January 3, while another card sold for $211,560 in December 2020.

One of the more popular trading cards, over 20,000 1986-87 Fleer MJ rookie cards were sent to PSA for grading. Only 316 of these cards have received Gem Mint 10 certification. It is surprising that many of these cards have been graded as good condition, as 1986-87 Fleer Basketball cards are notorious for centering issues Images and problems with unclear corners may be damaged.

Along with the Jordan and Davis rookie cards, several other items brought home the bacon in the auction. A 2017 Patrick Mahomes autographed rookie card sold for $861,000. One of only five cards in circulation, this is the most expensive football card ever sold. The final jersey worn by MJ in his final game also sold for $584,250.
