An elderly couple had been at sea for about 500 days and had booked 51 cruises because it was cheaper than living in a nursing home.

An aging couple may be starting a new wave for other older couples looking for an affordable living environment as they age.

Although unheard of, Jess and Marty Ansen set out on the first of many back-to-back cruises in June 2022. The Australian couple have been at sea for more than a year for their admitted that cruises are cheaper than nursing homes.

As their great-grandfather, Ansen also makes time to visit their family members in various locations around the world – when they don’t enjoy the many perks of being on a cruise ship, of course.

Marty Ansen says cruising is a “wonderful life”

Jess and Marty Ansen boarded the Princess Cruise ship on June 16, 2022. Although the Ansen’s would see many people come and go, the elderly couple decided that spending more than 450 days on the ship was a good idea after when you see how expensive nursing care costs are. will be home.

Knowing that they would be traveling for over a year, Ansen’s, who was also their great-grandfather, made sure they could still see their family along the way, meeting them at various ports.

Although they keep busy visiting their grandchildren, enjoying discos, countless dishes, comedy shows and other cruise ship perks, Marty told A Current Affair that his favorite thing about living aboard is is to make “friends for life”.

When together, however, the Ansen family enjoys playing ping pong in the mornings, followed by early afternoons on the balcony with a few adult drinks while gazing at the destination’s glory.

Additionally, Marty told A Current Affair that he and his wife no longer have to worry about making their bed. “Now, we don’t need to bathe or make the bed anymore,” he said. We don’t know how to make a bed because we haven’t done it for a long time, so now we have to stay on the ship to survive.”

Having been on the Princess Cruise ship for so long, it’s no surprise that the Ansen family are also starting to gain recognition, as they told A Current Affair that they were able to bond with the crew members and those who had listen to their stories.

The Ansen people also had no intention of leaving the ship. They will cruise for another eight months with Princess Cruises and at least another year after that on a private cruise ship. And even though they do it to save money, Marty can’t help but admit that he’s actually living a “great life.”
