Those interested in becoming an influencer can earn a formal degree from the Southeastern University of Technology in Carlow, Ireland.

The influencer market size has more than doubled compared to 2019, with the market estimated to reach US$21.1 billion. Billion-dollar profits will require more than just hitting one-time courses, which is exactly what Southeast University of Technology is trying to capitalize on.

The level of impact is more than meets the eye

Their influence seems to be mainly focused on marketing and how to market themselves while keeping up with the latest trends. The best example of this can be found on TikTok, which has seen the rise of many users and become one of the most popular creators on the platform.

“We knew there was space and demand for this, we just needed to develop the course into a Bachelor’s degree and get it approved,” Irene McCormick, a senior lecturer at the university, told the Washington Post.

Other universities such as USC, Cornell, Duke, and Chapman also offer similar courses, but they focus on one-time courses rather than combining them into a formal degree. Southeast University of Technology plans to accept 40 students into the program next year.

However, McCormick is expecting it to grow in popularity thanks to the university’s summer course, taught by viral TikTokers and field experts.

As the influencer industry grows, there will be more opportunities to earn degrees like those from Southeast University of Technology.
