Marlon Wayans appeared with his siblings on In Living Color from 1992 to 1993. Then, from 1995 to 1999, Wayans starred in the WB sitcom The Wayans Bros. along with his brother Shawn Wayans. Wayans was previously considered for the role of Robin in the 1992 film Batman Returns. However, producers cut the character because the film already had too many characters.

Marlon Wayans was then initially confirmed for the role in the 1995 sequel Batman Forever. He would star opposite Billy Dee Williams as Two-Face.
