Gordon Ramsay has only the best of intentions when trying to renovate the restaurants in Kitchen Nightmares. At times, his efforts were not well received.
Getting your restaurant featured in an episode of Kitchen Nightmares can go one of two ways… Either your restaurant rises like a phoenix from the ashes, or it crashes and burns tragic fire.
It takes time for Gordon Ramsay to give solid feedback to restaurateurs who need to intervene, but he usually does it in the most brutally honest way.
Some restaurant owners accepted his help with open arms while others rejected his insights by going another route. In particular, there was a restaurant owner very spoke out about how much he regrets joining Kitchen Nightmares.
Why John Chapman regrets Kitchen Nightmares

John Chapman used to run a restaurant called Chappy’s. It used to be known for its New Orleans-style Cajun menu before permanently closing.
John agrees to let Gordon and the rest of the Kitchen Nightmares filming crew into his place of business because he thinks it will bring positive change and financial gain.
Instead, things went downhill for Chappy not long after the episode was filmed and released for viewer scrutiny.
According to the National Enquirer via Daily Mail, John said: “It was an absolute nightmare in the kitchen for me. Gordon Ramsay destroyed my business. It was a confrontation from the beginning.”
John further complained about Gordon’s influence with Fox 17 Nashville via Eater. He explains that his menu is full of dishes related to his chosen theme like jambalaya and gumbo… before Gordon enters the scene.
Gordon Ramsay was seen spending time at Chappy’s restaurant.
He went on to say: “I couldn’t believe it [was] menu that he wants to include. Shut up, fried chicken, hamburgers – give me a break.”
Ultimately, John did not appreciate any of the changes Gordon wanted to make and his restaurant did not survive. Chappy’s certainly wasn’t alone in having to close after appearing on Kitchen Nightmares. Several other restaurants are also closed starting in 2023.
