Not only can you create impressive Instagram posts on Canva, but you can also schedule and post them directly from the platform. Here’s how to do it.
Canva makes creating Instagram posts super easy thanks to the unique features available. But did you know that after creating a post, you can post it straight to Instagram or even schedule it for later using Canva?
MUO VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE CONTENT
This convenience allows you to create even more posts so your Instagram page is always churning out fresh content for your audience. Here’s a guide to creating, posting, and scheduling Instagram posts from Canva.
How to create an Instagram post using Canva
Instagram allows you to use two different sizes for a post: the regular square size is 1080 x 1080 pixels and the vertical size is 1080 x 1350 pixels.
To create an Instagram post on Canva, you can enter dimensions by clicking Create Design and then clicking Custom Size. From there, enter the dimensions of the post you want to create and make sure the dimensions are set to px (pixels). Click Create new design.
You also have the option to find templates for Instagram posts, so the design is already created for you—all you have to do is switch the preview to your own.
In the search bar in the middle of Canva’s home page, type Instagram and press enter. If you import Instagram Posts, you’ll only get the square size—however, if you prefer 1080 x 1080 pixels, that route may benefit you more.
From there, you’ll see a series of Instagram post template options to choose from. Just make sure you don’t choose one of the posts that are too long because those posts are sized for Stories and Instagram Stories.
If the template has a crown icon, this option is only available for Canva Pro users. Choose a template you like and customize your design in Canva Editor. You can improve your Instagram posts in many ways, so make sure to create something engaging for your followers.
How to publish Instagram posts from Canva
Once you’ve designed your Instagram post, it’s time to publish it. In the upper right corner of Canva Editor, click Share. If the Instagram icon isn’t visible, click Share to social network. From there, select Instagram.
To publish a post on Instagram, click Post Now from the mobile app. You will receive a QR code that you can scan with your phone. Make sure you’re signed in to the Canva app with the same email address as the desktop version.
Scan the QR code and you will be taken to the Canva app. A message will pop up saying “Canva” wants to open “Instagram”. Click Open. From there, you can choose how you want to share your new post, whether it’s a Story, Feed, or Message.

Click on Feed to treat it as an Instagram post. Next, follow the same steps as you usually do to upload images to Instagram. This includes editing images, writing captions, and adding music, among several other options. When you’re done, tap Share.
How to schedule posts on Instagram using Canva’s mobile app
If you want to schedule your newly created Instagram post instead of publishing it right away, you have that option. You’ll need access to Canva Pro—Canva offers a 30-day free trial, however.
To schedule a post on Instagram through the Canva app, open the image you want to post and select the Share button in the upper right corner of the screen. Select Schedule. From there, you’ll be guided through using Canva’s content planning tool. Choose the date and time you want your post to be uploaded. Then press Next.

You will need to turn your Instagram account into a Professional Account and attach it to your Facebook page to continue. Once they’re attached, write a caption, then schedule your post.
If you don’t have a Facebook page to attach your Instagram to, there is another way to schedule posts.
Follow the same steps as publishing your post from Canva, but instead of clicking Share to publish, select Advanced settings. From here, toggle Schedule this post, select your date and time, select Set time, select the back arrow, then tap Schedule.
