He then moved to Mumbai in search of better career opportunities and eventually became a sales manager.

Telgi started his professional career but worked at Felix India Limited in Maharashtra but soon left the job. He worked as a manager at Kishan Guest House in Colaba after leaving his job. Even after getting a decent job, he was still dissatisfied because his dream was very big and he decided to leave India to fulfill his dream. Telgi found a job in Saudi Arabia in 1986, however he lost his job due to lack of focus and interest and returned to Mumbai after a few years.

After returning to India, he started working as a Travel Agent and used to help workers going to Arab countries for work. He began forging fake immigration documents and was jailed for three years for the crime. Telgi met Ram Ratan Soni in jail and later started working for him selling sticker tickets and non-judicial stamped papers. They both began growing their businesses by becoming more and more involved in illegal activities and counterfeit goods. Telgi’s stamp paper scam is so huge that it can be inferred that he has hired more than 300 MBA experts to account for his money. The total cost of the entire scam is estimated to be between ₹3000 crores to ₹30000 crores.
