CR Rao was born on 10 September 1920 in Hadagali, Bellary, Madras Presidency, British India (now in Karnataka, India). His full name is Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao. But he is mainly known as CR Rao. He is a famous Indian-American mathematician. And he was also a great statistician. Before his death, he was a professor emeritus at Pennsylvania State University and he was also a research professor at the University at Buffalo. He is one of the most famous mathematicians who has broken many records. He was born into a Telugu-Indian family. He is the 10th child in the family.

CR Rao completed his studies in Gudur, Nuzvid, Nandigama and Vishakapatnam. He then completed his Master’s degree in mathematics from Andhra University and after that he completed his Master’s degree in statistics from Calcutta University. He then completed his Ph.D. degree from King College of Cambridge University in 1948. When CR Rao started his career, he first started working at the Indian Statistical Institute and he also worked at the Museum of Anthropology in Cambridge. He set a record by receiving a total of 38 honorary doctorates from universities in a total of 19 countries.
