Zach Ertz injury: What happened to him? Health update
The Arizona Cardinals have received positive news regarding the health of tight end Zach Ertz. Ertz was acquired by the Cardinals from the Philadelphia Eagles in October 2021 and signed a three-year deal with the club in March of that year. However, Ertz suffered a catastrophic knee injury in Week 10 of the 2022 NFL season. Ertz tore his ACL and MCL, which typically takes about a year to heal. However, on Monday it was confirmed that Ertz had full authorization to resume football activity.
“Nearly nine months after tearing his ACL and MCL, #AZCardinals TE Zach Ertz has been cleared for full football activity and is on track to begin Week 1,” according to a source. Before injuring his knee in Week 10, the three-time Pro Bowler was on pace for 86 receptions, 745 yards and eight touchdowns.” The fact that Zach Ertz was cleared to return and play in Week 1 is a huge boost for the Arizona Cardinals offense, which desperately needs it. Since his injury and throughout the offseason, Ertz has openly expressed his desire to participate in Week 1. He told reporters the following:
“The goal is to always be present in Week 1.” At the same time, as long as I’m out there, I’ll be myself. I’m not going to go out early and endanger the team if I’m only at 80 percent. I need to do my best to make this company successful, so that’s what I’m focusing on.”
Zach Ertz is an important member of the Cardinals offense.
Since Arizona acquired Zach Ertz in a trade, the tight end has been a key component of the offense. After being traded from the Eagles, Ertz caught 56 passes for 574 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games for the Cardinals.
Cardinals season to begin in Washington
The Arizona Cardinals will begin their 2023 season against the Washington Commanders on September 10. Although Ertz will return to the lineup for that game, the Cardinals will be without starting quarterback Kyler Murray, who is recovering from his own knee injury. The Cardinals are expected to be one of the weakest teams in the 2023 NFL season, but Ertz’s return is significant for his offense.
