Robson Golightly Green was born on 18 December 1964 in Hexham, Northumberland. He grew up with his family in Dudley, a small mining village south of Cramlington. His father’s name was Robson Green and he worked in the mines. His mother Anne was a cleaner and shop owner. Green completed his education at Dudley Comprehensive High School. He was inspired by the jets flying above and decided he wanted to join the Royal Air Force. He joined the Air Force Training Corps at the age of 16. Although it wasn’t long before he decided to give up his career.

He then learned to play guitar and formed his first band, Solid State. He also spends one night a week at the Backworth Drama Center. Green left school at 16 with five O-levels.
