Kick-streamer GM Hikaru Nakamura broke Chess.com’s all-time blitz ratings record and did it against an enemy on Twitch.

For four years, Chess.com’s highest blitz rating stood at 3332, a record held by Hikaru himself, but this November he set out to conquer his own milestone once again .

As Chess.com reported, Hikaru racked up a whopping 15 straight wins, picking up a single point for each victory, as his opponent, Liam Putnam, was slightly underrated, but still above 2900.

If he loses a single match, Hikaru will miss 16 points, making each round crucial and the stakes sky-high.

Hikaru eventually reached 3336 before a 50-move draw cost him 7 points, but he still ended his broadcast with the new record.

Interestingly, opponent Magnus Carlsen has the second all-time blitz rating at 3322 – a high he reached in early June. For context, that is still 10 points off the previous record that of Hikaru, which just shows how far ahead he is when it comes to blitzing.

For now, it doesn’t look like anyone will be in the running for the title anytime soon. The current rankings have Alireza Firouzja of France at the top with 2896, still quite a distance from streamer Kick.
