He attended University College, Cardiff, after studying at Llanelli Boys’ Grammar School, gaining a first-class honors degree in French in 1983. He began postgraduate studies in medieval French at Cardiff University, after receiving his first degree and working as a reporter for local radio station Swansea Sound and then also joining the BBC. A television producer, Vicky Flind, who worked on shows such as This Week and Peston, is married to Edwards. The couple live in Dulwich, London and have five children.
