A mother has sparked outrage online after removing the colors from her child’s Christmas tree to better match her home’s aesthetic in an ill-received DIY project.
It’s the holiday season and people around the world are transforming their homes to reflect the upcoming celebrations.
From decorating the Christmas tree with shiny ornaments to creating Santa Claus shapes etc., homes look more festive than ever, decorated in red, green and white… But not for a mom on TikTok.
TikTok user and new mom ‘Nattie’ has a specific aesthetic in mind for her home, and she doesn’t want to let the holiday season get in the way of her preferred ‘look’.

Mom’s Christmas toys make netizens angry
In a viral video uploaded on December 1, Nattie showcased the DIY project she undertook to make her child-sized Christmas tree match the “sad beige” style of her home. Miss.
“I was channeling my inner Pinterest mom with a tree-neutral vision,” she explains. “And I can hear you thinking I’m going to ruin my toddler’s Christmas by painting it these colors. But let’s be honest: My child’s favorite toys are brown cardboard boxes and clear plastic water bottles.”
In the video, Nattie paints the tree and rainbow decorations bright green with dark blue, brown, gold, bronze and silver spray paint.
What was once a brightly colored festive decoration has become what many onlookers call a dull, boring object taking up space in the home – not to mention the paint’s toxic potential for some people. Young children can put objects in their mouths.
One user said: “Colors are very important for children’s development, so it doesn’t matter what you want.” “Don’t be sad anymore, moms.”
“Yes! Gorgeous! Stifle your child’s growth by turning anything colorful into a sad beige!” another said.
“Nothing says Christmas like, ‘Let’s poison the baby with paint, because I’m a sad beige mom!’” another expressed.
In response to the overwhelming criticism aimed at her, Nattie created a follow-up video in which she made some more child-safe decorations painted pink and purple.
While it seems like Nattie isn’t giving up her “sad beige” beauty look despite the criticism, she’s not the only TikToker receiving attention for her makeup. In November, a woman was criticized for renovating her boyfriend’s apartment – completely eliminating his personal style in favor of a ‘clean’, Spartan aesthetic.
