According to a popular news website, an Australian sailor and his dog were rescued after months adrift in the Pacific Ocean. To survive, he ate raw fish and drank rainwater. The rescued sailor and dog have been identified as Tim Shaddock and Bella. They were picked up by a tuna fishing boat off the coast of Mexico after a helicopter accompanying the ship spotted them.
The sailor left La Paz in Mexico in April for French Polynesia but a few weeks into the trip, a storm damaged his ship’s electronics. The sailor said he was forced to drift for two months with only his dog to accompany the duo who drank rainwater and raw fish to survive. Video of his incredible rescue obtained by the media shows a skinny Tim Shaddock with an overgrown gray beard as he speaks to authorities. Shaddock’s dog Bella was seen wagging her tail at the camera crew filming a sailor’s catamaran loaded with buckets and other equipment.
In the video, he can be heard telling a man on the boat, “I just got fishing gear, survival gear.” He added that he had been following the fishing boat and had not eaten enough food for quite some time. He said “I’m very tired and want to rest a bit and eat some delicious and nutritious food because I’ve been on the river alone for 2 months.” His story was shared by many news sites and people appreciated his determination to survive and the way he took care of his dog during those difficult times.
