New twist in Phillip Schofield scandal as This Morning’s Eamonn Holmes has NOT been quizzed

EAMONN Holmes and wife Ruth Langsford have yet to be questioned by the barrister probing the Phillip Schofield scandal – despite her report being released “very soon”.

KC’s Jane Mulcahy has not spoken to the pair about what they know about their former This Morning co-star’s affair with the show’s young runner.

Insiders say this is confusing given that Phil’s co-host Holly Willoughby and ITV’s TV director, Kevin Lygo, were interviewed.

Eamonn and Ruth, both 63, hosted Fridays for 15 years until 2021 and he slammed Phil when his affair came to light.

Eamonn said he and Ruth – on duty when Phil came out as gay on air in 2020 – were “keeping an eye” on the runner who was “in bad shape”.

He claimed Phil created a “toxic” work environment and “an atmosphere where people hated him”.

A source said: “Eamonn has extensive knowledge of the atmosphere on This Morning and previously said he thought Phil’s affair was ‘covered up’.

“He and Ruth worked on the show while it was on.

“The fact that no one seems to have approached him is confusing because he could be instrumental in helping to bring about change at ITV.

“Unless he and Ruth are questioned about what they know, it seems that the investigation into This Morning and what happened may not be as thorough as people initially believed it would be.”

Phil, 61, left This Morning in May after admitting his affair.

Holly, 42, was said to have fully complied with the investigation.

Unlike Kevin Lygo, she was not asked to hand over her cell phone so that her emails, texts and WhatsApp messages could be scrutinized.

ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall, who ordered the investigation, said Phil and the runner had previously denied they were in a relationship.

In the letter, she wrote: “Phillip made assurances to us and his agency that he now admits were untrue and we feel very let down.”

The Sun has contacted ITV for comment.
