On Sunday, American Idol will return to the airwaves with another spectacular season, featuring incredible vocalists competing to become the next best singer in the country.
The following is what ABC has to say about the upcoming season:
“Music industry heavyweights and celebrity judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie are helping choose who America will vote for to become the next singing phenomenon. Ryan Seacrest, the Emmy Award-winning host and producer, is also set to return to the popular competition series.”
American Idol season 21 will begin on ABC on Sunday, February 19 at 8 pm ET.
Meet Zachariah Smith, who will be competing on season 21 of American Idol.
Zachariah Smith, a musician, husband and father from Amory, Mississippi, who works at Bill’s Hamburgers, is one of the competitors scheduled to compete on the show. He started singing at age six and learned to play guitar at eight. In an interview with Monroe Journal, he said that his main interest is being a singer and entertainer.
He stated:
“Basically I care about my voice, in addition to entertaining and acting. “I think that was the pinnacle of what launched my career.”
At the age of 15, the singer considered competing on American Idol but realized he lacked the necessary experience. After a few years of waiting, he auditioned for the next season in Nashville in front of celebrity judges. In the interview, he also said that now that he has acclimated to “adult life,” he would like to pursue his aspirations. He went on to say:
“I did it because I thought I had a good chance of getting somewhere and having the music career I’d always wanted.”
As for the audition, he remembers that when he arrived, there were maybe 200 to 300 people in the waiting area, and they were all singing. This made him reflect on the fantastic competition that is American Idol and the talent he displays. He went on to say that although watching so many people is a fantastic experience, “self-doubt” arises. He went on to say:
“After I stopped hearing the voices inside my brain, I got on the horse and started running with it, I started to feel joy in the process. That motivated me to go to the Nashville audition and give it my all.”
