Andhra train accident
In a tragic incident on the Howrah-Chennai train line in Andhra Pradesh last evening, October 29, 13 people were killed and 40 others injured in a collision between two passenger trains. A passenger train lost its signal and rammed into another train from behind in Vizianagaram area. The accident took place last night, October 29, between two passenger trains on the Howrah-Chennai route and caused a domino effect across the Vizianagaram area. Following the incident, significant disruption resulted in the railway authority canceling 18 trains and diverting 22 more.
A signal-related incident caused a special passenger train moving between Visakhapatnam and Palasa to suddenly stop on the tracks between Alamanda and Kantakapalle, causing a disaster. Three coaches of the train derailed when the Vizag-Raigad passenger train hit the stalled train from behind at this precarious moment. Railway sources quickly determined that human error was the main cause of the disaster, as reported by pre-media accounts. It is said that the train driver did not see the signal. Disturbing photos taken at the scene show overturned carriages and worried bystanders. According to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the situation was resolved by midnight, except for the wrecked and damaged train carriages.
According to updated information from the Vizianagaram district administration, four of the 40 injured people are in critical condition. All the injured were natives of Andhra Pradesh. Vizianagaram Collector Nagalakshmi confirmed 13 casualties; he provided the information this morning. The Railway Minister responded to the disaster by announcing financial assistance for affected families. Those who lost loved ones in the crash will be compensated 10 lakh yen. As per Ashwini Vaishnaw’s instructions, passengers with minor injuries will get ₹50,000, while those with serious injuries will get ₹2.5 lakh.
