Andrea Drews was born on December 25, 1993 in Indiana, United States. She spent her childhood 15 miles east of South Bend in Ekhart, Indiana. Her father and mother’s names are Mike Drews and Carrie Drews. She has two siblings, Derek, who played basketball at Western Michigan University, and an older sister, Erin, who is an artist.

She has been playing since she was very young. She started playing volleyball for Mizuno Gold and Circle City Gold. She has said that she was a competitive cheerleader before.

She graduated and completed her studies at Purdue University majoring in Hotel and Tourism Management in 2015.

It was recently announced that she announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend Tanner Schumacher on June 15, 2020.

High school and college years

Andrea Drews began playing indoor club volleyball in 2008 with Network Juniors. She moved on to several clubs and finished her youth club career with Northern Indiana Volleyball Academy.

Purdue University

Andrea launched her athletic career in school tournaments and after becoming one of the nation’s top prep players at Penn High, she joined the Purdue University women’s volleyball team. Here she participated in Division I NCAA from 2012 to 2015.

Drews won an Honorable Mention at the AVCA All-American in 2014. Furthermore, she was selected to the AVCA All-American Second Team in 2015 as a senior at Purdue University.

International career

Andrea Drews has played for many teams in many different countries. In 2016, she played for Indias de Mayagüez in the Puerto Rico cup and she was a member of Criollas de Caguas in the same tournament. From 2017 to 2018, she competed in the Italian league and was a member of SAB Volley Legnano and Pomí Casalmaggiore. After that, she went to China and played there for a while. Even though she has been playing for the Japanese team since 2019.

She has achieved many incredible achievements at the Japanese Vleague. She plays in V-League Division 1. She plays for JT Marvelous, the team that became the champion of V.League Division 1 Japan 2019-20 (V1). They took down some good players with her on the team. She was awarded Best and Most Valuable Opposite Player. In 2019, she continued to play for JT Marvelous and once again defeated V.League Division 1, and won the gold medal.

Andrea Drews is a main member of the American team in FIVB tournaments. She competed in the 2017 Pan American Women’s Volleyball Cup, USA Volleyball Cup, FIVB World Volleyball Championship and Major Women’s World Volleyball Championship. She helped America win many such matches. She also played in the 2018 and 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Tour as a member of the US National team.

This year she was chosen to represent the United States in the list of 12 players attending the Olympics.
