An ‘anti-glasses’ influencer is being criticized for suggesting people’s poor eyesight could be due to “spiritual” reasons and saying wearing glasses is a scam.
What the hell did we do before wearing glasses? Well, before the 13th century, people with poor eyesight simply squinted before the first pair of eyeglasses were invented in Italy.
Since then, nearsightedness has increased as people work closer together in offices and on computers. Now, more people are suffering from myopia (nearsightedness) than ever before… but one influencer doesn’t think glasses are the answer.
Myopia occurs when the eyes are too long or are oval instead of round, but influencer and ‘holistic coach’ Samantha Lotus says “spiritual reasons” could be the cause of poor eyesight .

Influencer causes fever for controversial ‘anti-glasses’
Samantha Lotus is being criticized on social media after a video of hers went viral in which she said people should ditch their glasses and try her “cure” to cure their poor eyesight.
“You may have been told you need glasses, but that’s actually a lie,” she says. “There are mental, emotional, physical and even spiritual reasons why you may not be able to see.”
Instead of picking up a pair of prescription glasses, Samantha says people should try her $11 Vision Healing Class to see better — a class in which she says participants can “ Decide today that you can see and that your body knows how to heal.”
One Twitter/X user took Samantha’s masterclass, in which the influencer claimed that trauma and PTSD are causes of poor eyesight, which people can simply “choose to let go of ”.
After Samantha’s video went viral, she became the talk of the town online, leaving users confused.
“I am legally blind with 20/400 vision. If I didn’t have glasses/contact lenses, I would become this crazy thing called…blind,” said one netizen.
“This video is too cruel for the blind!” another person wrote. “…I really can’t get my sight back this way, trying to take advantage of blind people and make money from them this way is dishonest and cruel. I hope no one falls into that situation.”
“She said: ‘If you don’t believe me, read the comments,’ but I can’t help but wear glasses,” another joked. “It’s a pretty big deal.”
To date, Samantha has not publicly responded to the backlash against her… but she appears to have made her TikTok account private in the following weeks.
This is just the latest fad to be criticized online after skin care experts warned netizens against using beef tallow on their skin after the method went viral online.
