Chef Jack Luby from Below Deck Mediterranean is doing great in Season 8. The main problem? No one knew what he was saying.
Chef Jack Luby will make his reality TV debut as one of the main cast members of Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8. And to be honest, he’s not doing very well so far.
First and foremost is the egg incident for which viewers still haven’t forgiven him. In episode 2 of the season, he was heavily criticized for improperly cooking eggs for a charter customer.
He responded to the failure by saying that breakfast was ‘overrated’, which is not what you want to hear from the chef in charge of cooking food for guests in the morning.
Not only did viewers not understand how he could spoil the eggs, but some didn’t even understand what he was saying.

Do fans understand Below Deck Med’s Jack Luby?
On October 4, Below Deck Med fans discussed Jack on Reddit. The chef is from Liverpool, England and has definitely maintained the regional accent. For some viewers, it was too much to bear.
One fan wrote: “I’m usually very good at handling accents but sometimes he annoys me, lol. I turn on CC for most shows anyway. I ended up reading more than watching.”
Another fan wrote: “75% of the time I don’t understand Jack. I would reduce that to 50% after spending a few seconds understanding what he said, but then I would miss part of the next thing he said.”
Jack has yet to respond to public comments. But needless to say, viewers greatly appreciate subtitles.
