After leaving such a positive legacy, Netflix recently announced plans to honor famous “artist” Chadwick Boseman in an upcoming documentary titled Chadwick Boseman: Portrait of an Artist. Boseman, mostly known for his role as King T’Challa, aka Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, passed away in August 2020 after a four-year battle with colon cancer.
“Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016 and had been fighting the disease for the past four years as it progressed to stage IV,” the Boseman family said. “A true warrior, Chadwick persevered through it all and brought you many of the films you love so much. From Marshall ARRIVE Skin 5 HealthAugust Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and more – all filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. The documentary will feature people who worked closely with Boseman, such as Spike Lee (Do The Right Thing), Viola Davis (Fences) and Denzel Washington (The Book of Eli), who “ sponsored the late artist’s year abroad at the Oxford Mid -British American Drama Academy Summer Program in England.”
Boseman’s career has been one of true achievement and success starring in iconic roles such as the title character in the Oscar-nominated superhero film Black Panther, which is a superhero film. first nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. After debuting in Captain America: Civil War, he reprized the role in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, with his final performance following T’Challa’s debut in the upcoming Disney+ series What If?, will have his presence. an alternate version of the character.
Boseman is also known for playing real-life heroes such as Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in Marshall, “Godfather of Soul” James Brown in Get On Up and baseball legend Jackie Robinson in 42. He also starred in and produced the 2019 action-thriller 21 Bridges.
Most recently, Boseman starred in Spike Lee’s drama Da 5 Bloods, a war film about five Vietnam War veterans who return home to search for lost treasure, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom by George C. Wolfe, opposite Viola Davis, the latter of which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Chadwick Boseman: Portrait of an Artist is scheduled to be released on Netflix on April 17.
