The boy’s father was identified as Sisira Gajanayaka while the son was identified as Themi, who was trying to save his father from dangerous waters. But accidentally, both of them drowned in the water. It is known that both were trying to escape from the water. A police spokesman said they struggled to get out of the water. Rescuers arrived at the scene around 5 p.m. A rescue operation was started immediately but they were not discovered despite two pump trucks and the Swift Water rescue team joining in to search for the father and son. Later, people found them and pulled them out of the water, but they were dead. Police said the duo could not be revived by paramedics and they were declared dead a short time later.
