A TikToker explains why she couldn’t buy a pair of roller skates at Goodwill, saying she was “heartbroken” after an employee turned her away.
It’s rare for a department store to refuse to sell an item to a customer, but for one TikToker, who goes by the name Gigi, that’s no story.
Even though Gigi had to travel more than 30 minutes to get to a Goodwill location, she was still shocked after being told she wasn’t allowed to buy a pair of roller skates.
Since posting the now-viral TikTok video explaining her situation, Gigi has heard from many well-meaning shoppers and employees who all shared their skepticism about the disparity between stores save.

Goodwill staff said roller skates must be “re-processed” before purchase
When shopping at a thrift store like Goodwill, usually no one walks out of the store without getting a bargain of some kind.
For Gigi, that deal was a pair of pristine roller skates she’d always wanted. Although she could have left the store with other things, she was informed that her precious item was not eligible for sale.
Somehow, the price tag fell off the roller skates, causing a Goodwill employee to refuse to sell the item to Gigi, who spent 35 minutes getting to the thrift store.
Sure, the first time might have kept Gigi from going back to that Goodwill — but the initial rejection wasn’t enough to keep her away from those roller skates she’d been eyeing.
So the next day, Gigi drove all the way to that Goodwill and discovered that her upcoming pair of roller skates were placed on the shelf with a price tag. Ultimately, she couldn’t be denied – so she bought roller skates, then posted to TikTok to share her story.
In her now-viral TikTok video, Gigi captioned her shade saying, “I found these perfect roller skates at Goodwill two days ago and the (not so nice) staff didn’t let me bought them because the sticker fell off. I begged and was heartbroken when she told me I had to take them back for processing.”
Although Gigi was told that roller skates had to be “reprocessed,” many Tiktokers who worked at Goodwill shared that they had never heard of an item being ‘reprocessed’ just because the price tag fell off. , they said: “I worked at Goodwill and we always priced items right away for the person.”
While another said, “As someone on a goodwill change break now, we could actually go back and put a new sticker on.”
Gigi even expressed how the same employee who refused to sell to her worked the next day. Although Gigi came for the sole purpose of buying roller skates, she encountered confrontation from the employee, as Gigi explained she glared at her while sarcastically saying, “Oh , you were the girl that day.”
Although the process can be messy, Gigi still gets the roller skates of her dreams in the end. Sure, it took over two hours of travel and one rather unhappy employee, but in the end, she made a pretty penny. You go girl!
