The conclusion was so satisfactory that the Ministry decided to order additional equipment from a company based in the United States. According to the official, the device can detect metal, SIM cards and mobile phones through concrete that can be buried up to 2 feet deep. The department spent ₹1.5 crore on 10 devices, each costing ₹15 lakh. The total capacity of three jails in Delhi Tihar, Mandoli and Rohini is 10,026 prisoners. However, according to officials, there are currently 2,165 prisoners and 17,906 undertrial prisoners (UTP) being detained at these three facilities.
