Allegations that chess grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura cheated to achieve the highest ever Blitz rating have been officially quashed.
The chess community was thrown into turmoil last week when Vladimir Kramnik accused Hikaru of cheating, sparking much debate.
While Hikaru called the accusations “garbage” and even won a major victory to prove his innocence, sparks continued to fly when Kramnik deleted comments defending Nakamura.
Now, Chess.com has officially ruled that there have been “no incidents” of cheating after generating 2,000 individual reports of Hikaru’s games.

On its website, Chess.com addressed Kramnik’s claims that the Kick streamer cheated while reiterating its commitment to taking cheating extremely seriously.
They said: “In the case of the recent allegations against Hikaru Nakamura by Vladimir Kramnik, we can say that we have generated almost 2,000 individual reports about Hikaru’s games in our Fair Play system. us and found no cases of fraud.”
“Our team did the math and simulated various sequences for a player like Hikaru, who has played over 50,000 games. We found that not only was it possible to have a 45-game winning streak, but in fact it was possible based on the number of games played.”
They added that the claims “lack statistical validity” after speaking with statisticians and a statistics professor at a leading university.
As for the actual cheating, Chess.com has revealed some wild numbers. In October 2023, more than 50,000 accounts were banned for cheating, including six title players.
Chess cheating scandals have been a hot topic since Hans Niemann defeated Mangus Carlsen in a live tournament, making headlines around the world and even sparking debate about whether whether or not he uses adult toys to cheat during the match.
