A DoorDash driver refused to deliver orders to customers’ homes after they discovered they were only being tipped a dollar.
DoorDash is an app that allows customers to have food and groceries delivered directly to their door. When using the app, customers will have the option to tip the driver, although this is not mandatory.
Despite this, it is considered common etiquette to tip your driver, with expert Thomas Farley, recommending customers tip at least 20%.
However, this is not always true. In a viral video that resurfaced, we see a TikToker explaining a situation that occurred between a customer and an employee:
“This DoorDash customer requested to be taken to their apartment on the ninth floor. They tipped their manager a dollar. When the driver left the food at the building’s reception, the customer said this is not the location I requested.”
“Dasher responded and said the elevator was unfortunately out of service for emergency repairs.”
“They have stairs,” the customer wrote.
The TikToker then prompted viewers to discuss the situation, asking if they would be happy to walk up nine flights of stairs for a one-dollar tip.
TikTok viewers debate the viral $1 tip situation
TikTok is happy to weigh in on the situation and as usual, there are very divided opinions.
One person wrote: “I am a fast person and my job is to deliver food to customers – tip or not. I walked up the stairs and hoped they enjoyed their delivery experience.”
Another simply said: “It’s WORK.”
However, the majority supported the delivery driver, saying: “I rushed and I exercised enough to deliver! for $1, no, I wouldn’t be on the 9th floor, that’s crazy.”
Another agreed, “I wouldn’t walk up 9 flights of stairs to get to my own house, let alone randomly, lol.”
DoorDash drivers are often the subject of difficulty. Another employee sparked outrage in November for eating customers’ food after they failed to tip him.
