The event, also officially known as the Costume Institute Gala or Costume Institute Benefit, was held held on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, New York City. A Twitter account named @arisdoja shared a photo of what looked like Zendaya posing for the camera on the red carpet. As the post went viral, many accounts took to their social media pages to discuss the photo and were excited by the American actress’s presence at this year’s Met Gala.

Soon after, many users pointed out that the photo had in fact been photoshopped, confirming that Zendaya did not attend the event.
