Former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear, who recently spent two days as OpenAI’s CEO, revealed that he is “very pleased” with Sam Altman’s return to the company.
On November 17, OpenAI revealed that it had let co-founder and CEO Sam Altman leave the company due to loss of confidence in his ability to lead the company.
Two days later, they hired former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear as interim CEO nearly nine months after he left the Amazon-owned livestreaming platform to be with his newborn son.
Sam Altman returned to OpenAI as CEO on November 22, and Shear shared his thoughts in a post on Twitter/X.

In his post, the former Twitch CEO revealed that he helped find a solution for Sam Altman’s return to OpenAI.
“I am extremely pleased with the results after ~72 hours of very intense work,” he said. “When I came to OpenAI, I wasn’t sure what the right path was. This is the path to maximize safety alongside proper implementation by all parties involved. I’m glad to be part of the solution.”
The post has since been viewed more than 2.2 million times and has more than 700 comments from followers sharing their thoughts on his tenure as CEO. In the sequel, Shear jokes about how he completed the CEO’s speedrunning record.
“Thanks Emmett!” one user said, echoing the thoughts of many others.
Another joked that Emmett helped ship a new product in his two days as CEO when OpenAI added Voice to ChatGPT: “You did great and even shipped an incredible product during In my short time as CEO, well done.”
A third user commented: “Thank you for doing the right thing. Without your pressure to resign, this will continue for weeks and hinder progress.”
Now that Altman is back as CEO of OpenAI, things can start to return to normal, and the more than 700 employees who threatened to leave no longer have to worry about it during the holiday season.
