The life of Gabrielle Thomas

Gabrielle Thomas was born on December 7, 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia. Her parents’ names are Jennifer Randall and Desmond Thomas. She also has a twin brother named Andrew. Thomas is of many different ethnicities. She is African American on her mother’s side and Jamaican on her father’s side. In 2007, her mother moved the family to Massachusetts to teach at the University of Massachusetts after completing her Ph.D. at Emory University. When her family settled in Florence, Massachusetts, she initially played softball and soccer. But it wasn’t long before she became interested in the track team. She is coached by Michelle Lawson. In high school, Thomas ran all four years for Williston Northampton School, where she set many school records and was MVP every year.

Gabrielle Thomas graduated from Harvard University. There, she graduated with an undergraduate degree in neurobiology and global health. While studying at Harvard, she won 22 conference titles during her three years in the sport. They won 6 events. She set school and Ivy League records in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 60 meter indoor events.

Sickness

After graduating from Harvard, she moved to Austin, Texas. Here she was coached by Tonja Buford-Bailey. In May 2020, Thomas was provisionally suspended for three disqualifications and was sanctioned with ineligibility for a period of two years. She filed new testimony in June to overturn a failed conviction and was later acquitted in July.

Thomas encountered a health warning in 2021 when an MRI scan showed she had a tumor on her liver. But it turned out to be a harmless thing. She is currently continuing her master’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin in epidemiology.

Gabrielle Thomas competed for the United States in the 200 meter dash at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Her time of 21.61 seconds in the U.S. Olympic trials on June 26, 2021 placed her in first place. 3rd fastest ever. That moment even shocked Thomas himself.

At the Olympics, Thomas won the bronze medal, running into the final in 21.87, behind Elaine Thompson Herah (gold) and Christine Mboma (silver).
