“Gay hairy hacker” broke into a US nuclear laboratory and made demands 2023

A group claiming to be “gay hairy hackers” have attacked one of the largest nuclear labs in the US, and they have a very specific request.

Idaho National Laboratory (INL), one of the largest nuclear laboratories in the United States, confirmed that they were attacked by hackers. Under SiegeSec — a group that describes itself as “gay furry hackers.”

“On Monday, November 20, the Idaho National Laboratory determined that it was the target of a cybersecurity data breach within a federally approved vendor system outside of the supporting laboratory. powers INL Cloud HR services,” INL said in a statement to Engadget.

With the company taking “immediate action” to protect thousands of user and employee data records, SiegedSec has revealed its strange demands in exchange for keeping the stolen data private .

Claiming to have access to the full names, dates of birth, home addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers and “more” of employees and users, SiegedSec reveals the desired ransom Theirs is not ordinary money.

“We are ready to make an agreement with INL,” SiegedSec wrote in their announcement of the breach. “If they research creating IRL catgirls, we will take this post down.”

While their request for INL to bring real-life catgirls into the world may not be too serious, this far-fetched and unrealistic request is unlikely to bring any relief to customers. Thousands of people are at risk of having their personal information exposed.

Providing some insight into why SiegedSec targeted INL, the group tweeted: “We are cats, complex issues like “why” are of no concern to us.”

“Seriously? You hack a lab trying to fight climate change and all you explain WHY is “I’m a cat”? Are you 12 years old?” one user replied. To this, SiegedSec said, “INL is responsible for more than just climate change solutions, they are not targeted due to their involvement in mitigation climate”.

In a separate post, the group shared a headline reporting their hack and identifying the group as gay hairy hackers, writing: “We [love] our fans.”
