Following the resignation of the Carlyle Group founders to serve as chairman of the board in October 2017, Glenn Younkin along with Kewsong Lee were appointed co-CEOs. Glenn is in charge of the company’s global credit and private equity businesses. Both Glenn and Kewsong later joined the board. In January 2021, he announced his candidacy for governor of Virginia. He used his personal fortune to fund his candidacy. On May 10, 2021, at the party’s state convention, he won the nomination, defeating six fellow candidates.
