Gothalion read out an email he allegedly received from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy asking him to provide a shortlist of people who are taking advantage of stream embedding features amid the ongoing controversy around Fextralife.
Popular gaming website Fextralife has been the subject of intense scrutiny over the past few years for engaging in controversial practices related to its Twitch livestreams.
While the site’s Twitch channel boasts more than 1.6 million followers, many viewers have noticed that the amount of chat happening in their streams doesn’t quite match the viewership these broadcasts get. seems to have.
This issue first emerged in 2021, when YouTube star Ludwig accused the site of “stealing views” by embedding streams on their game wiki.
In doing so, Fextralife’s Twitch channel was able to receive a lot of views from people browsing their wiki without actively viewing the channel.
The problem arose again with the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 in 2023, sparking outrage at the site for what it called “shady practices” regarding its streams.
Now, it looks like Twitch may finally be taking action against streamers who abuse embedded content, as streaming star Gothalion said during an October 2 broadcast.

During his livestream, Gothalion read out an email he claimed to have received from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy asking him to provide a shortlist of offenders who used embedded streams to increase their viewership.
“We are talking about more embedding and we are looking at ways we can address it without having negative impacts,” Gothalion read. “There were suggestions of me going out with Ko so we discussed and asked questions. [for] Friend. The idea is to do something quickly by identifying a list of the most egregious violators and stopping autoplay on these sites.”
Clancy insists this will only be a “quick and dirty” solution while they continue to devise a “better, longer-term” plan of attack.
“I understand that there is a short list of worst offenders starting with Fextralife. Can you name the worst offenders right now? I have a data team trying to detect the worst of these and it would be nice to have a shortlist of the worst criminals.”
This is welcome news for many in the Twitch community, who feel as though such autoplay embeds could actually harm streamers who are putting out thoughtful, effort-intensive content. by promoting larger streams that are gaining views from embeds.
“Finally Twitch is paying attention,” Gothalion later posted on Twitter. “Change is coming.”
“The small group of people who use dips to fudge their numbers should be prepared.”
