Witnesses said that when the Guwahati-Kolkata special train entered Katwa station, fire was seen rising from the air-conditioned compartment, coach B-1. Room B-1 was filled with smoke. Other passengers present on the station platform informed the station master. Railway workers and engineers immediately stopped the train and found the source of the fire. There were no serious accidents on the railway, no casualties. However, as soon as there was a report of a fire from under the air conditioning compartment of the moving train, tension spread throughout the train, including Katwa station. Many people present on the station platform, including passengers on the train, fled for fear of fire. After a fire broke out on the train, railway workers and engineers began repair work.
