What is Instagram Collaboration?

Instagram Collab is similar to a tagged post but instead of just appearing as a tag, the user appears as a co-author. The biggest and most important difference is that using the collaboration feature will post to all collaborators’ feeds. The contributor’s username will appear at the top of the post so it looks like all of you posted it.

How to post collaborative photos on Instagram

To collaborate with someone on Instagram, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to your Instagram profile.
2. Tap the plus icon in the upper right corner (next to the hamburger icon) and select the type of post you want to create. Note that Instagram Collaborations can only be used for regular posts or Instagram Stories. Notably, it cannot be used on Stories.
3. Select what you’ve collaborated on and want to post, then tap Next in the top right corner.
4. Apply any necessary edits and tap Next in the upper right corner. If you’re not satisfied with Instagram’s editing options, you can check out other free photo editing software.

6. Tap Tag people. You can still tag people as usual before or after you add a collaborator.
7. Click Invite collaborators.
8. Enter the name or username of the account you want to tag as a collaborator.
9. Choose your collaborator(s).
10. Post your content.

Once you post your content, it’s the contributor’s responsibility to accept your invitation so that it appears on their feed as well. If they decline or don’t respond to your invitation, the post will appear like a regular Instagram post on your feed.

Can you invite multiple collaborators?

Instagram updated its Collaboration feature in 2023, so you can now invite up to five other accounts to collaborate. When this feature first appeared, you could only invite one other person.

This gives users more room to credit everyone who may have worked on the content in the post or Story.
