Shivakumar, a resident of RR Nagar and a native of Nanjangud, worked full-time as the superintendent engineer of storm water drainage department for BBMP. He is also in charge of the newly established QAL. In December 2005, he started working with BBMP. Deputy Prime Minister DK Shivakumar offered condolences to the victim’s family. Shivakumar’s wife and two daughters are still alive.
According to preliminary investigation, BBMP’s quality assurance laboratory was destroyed in the fire disaster, after the process of extracting bitumen with combustible material malfunctioned. The workers on the ground floor who were testing the asphalt extraction were unharmed when they left the building. The nine injured people were first floor staff. Transported to hospital in critical condition. According to Dr Uday Davda, director of Apollo Hospital, Seshadripuram, Shivakumar’s condition was critical when he was taken from the burn department of Victoria Hospital. His lungs are in poor condition. He needed a lot of air because the toxic gas he inhaled had made his lungs weak.
