How to use Instagram story templates
The Instagram Stories templates feature is simple and extremely easy to use, whether you want to find templates for ideas or actually put templates together to publish on your profile.
Here’s how to access the templates…
1. Find your pattern
There are two ways you can find Instagram Reels templates on the platform. The first and most common way is to open the Instagram app and tap the Create icon located in the middle of the bottom toolbar. From there, select Stories and scroll under New Stories until you find the Template option—tap it.
Take some time to browse through all the available options. Top model choices are often Featured Models—models that are growing in popularity. For example, during the holiday season, you might find a specific theme that fits the celebration.
You can also search through Story templates that are trending right now. If you have saved any templates, they appear near the bottom of the Browse Templates screen.
Another way to find patterns is if you’re scrolling through Stories. You may have come across a video with a Use Template button. If you want to save the template, tap the three-dot icon on the right toolbar and select Save. However, if you want to use the template right away, you can tap on it and add your media.
2. Add media
When you find a template you want to use, just tap it. The Use as Template screen will pop up and you can start attaching your video or photo clip to the small boxes available.
Then, edit your clips to fit the amount of time allotted to them. To do this, simply tap on a clip and move the rectangle over the part of the clip you want in the new Story. Tap the Next arrow when you’re done.
On the next screen, you will be able to edit your Story. Swipe up or select Edit Video to do this. You can adjust clip timing and music, and add text, effects, and filters—you can even add stickers to your Instagram Stories if you want. Additionally, if you don’t like the order of your clips, you can tap the Rearrange icon to move your videos or photos around.
When you’re done, tap the Next arrow and you’ll be taken to the Preview page to write your caption and implement other elements, like posting your Story to Facebook or sharing a post on Instagram yours only with your Close Friends group. Select Next and then select Share when you’re ready to publish your Story. You also have the option to schedule your Instagram Stories instead.

Sometimes, Reels can be time-consuming to make due to having to stitch clips together to the beat of the music. Using a template will make the process easier and allow you to focus on the clips to use instead of everything being aligned correctly.
Additionally, Instagram does the work for you by choosing the Story music that’s currently trending or what content best suits your profile. All you need to do is browse through the options and choose the one you like best.
