1. Find old posts through Facebook search

You can use the default search feature on the Facebook home page to find old posts on your timeline or someone else’s. All you have to do is modify your search terms a little to get the results you need. Follow along on your PC or phone to see how it works.

The first thing to remember is that if you search for “My Posts”, the search results that pop up are either results you’ve posted yourself or results posted by others that you’ve seen before. If you’re looking for a recently published post, you can select Recent Posts to narrow your search results. If the post was posted by someone else, you can try selecting Posts you’ve seen. And finally, you can refine your search results based on location by selecting Tagged Locations.

If you want to find photos or videos on your timeline, you’ll also find those options in Filters. Searching for photos and videos is similar to the process mentioned above. However, these two options have fewer filters than Posts, which are modified according to the requirements of the content type. Sometimes, you won’t know what to search for to find a particular post. In such cases, the above two search methods may not be useful and you are better off using Filters on the timeline.

To access the post filter, go to the profile page where you want to find posts and click Filter next to Posts. On your timeline, you can filter posts based on year, post author, Facebook privacy settings for posts, and tagged posts. This way you can narrow things down and easily find what you’re looking for.

However, on other people’s timelines, you can only filter posts by year, making this method not very useful when searching for other people’s posts.

4. Use Activity Log on your Timeline

On your timeline, you have an additional option to find old posts—your Activity Log. If you don’t know the exact keyword to search for or it’s something you’ve recently interacted with, finding it through your Activity Log is your best bet. You can access your Activity Log by clicking the three-dot icon just below the Edit Profile button on your timeline.
