How to make WhatsApp group video calls

In November 2022, the app doubled the number of people you can add to a WhatsApp group. So whether you’re in a WhatsApp group or just browsing the calls tab, you have two options on how to get people into a group call. First, you can add up to 32 group members to a video call in a WhatsApp group. Alternatively, you can go to the calls tab and select up to 15 friends from your contact list to start a call.

How to make a WhatsApp group video call from a group chat

The WhatsApp group calling feature allows you to have up to 32 people join a WhatsApp group video call. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Open the WhatsApp group chat in which you want to video call.
2. If your group chat has 32 or fewer participants, just tap Video call.

If there are more than 32 people in your group:

1. Tap the phone icon in the top right corner of your screen.
2. Choose up to 32 people to join your video call.
3. Then tap Video call.

You must have the latest version of WhatsApp on your device to add up to 32 participants to a call. Also note that for security reasons, you need to be an admin of the group to add individuals who are not saved in your contact list to a group call.

How to make WhatsApp group video calls from the calls tab

You can add up to 15 random people from your contact list to a WhatsApp video call. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Open WhatsApp on your device, then tap the Calls tab at the top right.
2. Tap the phone icon in the bottom right.
3. Select New group call.
4. Choose from your contacts.
5. Then tap Video call.

Anyone you invite to a group video call can join the group call, even after the call has already started.

How to schedule a WhatsApp group video call

If you can’t make a group video call right away, you can schedule a group video call for later. To do this, follow these steps:

1. In a group chat, tap the video call button.
2. Select Schedule a call from the drop-down menu.
3. Give your call a title so people know what it’s about.
4. Select the date and time you want the call to take place.
5. Click agree.
6. Once completed, select Send.

Reminders will be sent to team members 15 minutes before the call starts.

Make group video calls on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is not just about messaging. It allows you to stay connected with friends and family through audio and video. When using WhatsApp for group video calls, please note that you cannot remove contacts from the call during a WhatsApp video call. If someone wants to leave the call, they need to hang up to voluntarily disconnect the call.

You can also join a group video call with someone you’ve blocked, but you can’t add contacts to the call if they’ve blocked you, and you can’t add contacts you’ve blocked to the call.
