Why did IRS agents raid a gun store in Great Falls?

Hoose claimed in an interview with news source The Truth About Guns that agents were called in from as far away as Idaho and Denver just to secure a warrant for his banking data. Van Hoose explained that the IRS said he underreported his income and failed to inform them of his millions of dollars in income to get the order. He denied the allegations, saying everyone who manages a gun retail business knows that eventually there won’t be much money left.

Van Hoose told The Truth About Guns that his shop was closed on June 14 so agents could copy data from his computer. Additionally, he said that IRS and ATL officials obtained 4,473 background check documents needed to complete a NICS check as well as a log of the 13-year-old boy’s gun purchases and sales. U.S. Rep. Matt Rosendale was incensed by the incident and wrote a letter to IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel and ATF Director Steven Dettelbach calling it “outrageous.” The letter continued: “A pattern of intimidation and harassment against hardworking Americans has emerged under Director Dettelbach’s leadership of the ATF; The people of Montana will not tolerate these political witch hunts,” the statement read. He will ensure that funding for these agencies is not used as a weapon against the American people, and he will remind Director Dettelbach and Commissioner Werfel that Congress has the right to appropriate funds. He asked the ATF and IRS to stop carrying out these Soviet-style intimidation activities.
