Here, we will discuss the cyber attack against MyAnimeList. This website had to be taken down for emergency maintenance as it was believed to belong to a potential Serial Experimental Lain enthusiast. After a hack, the MyAnimeList website was taken down. According to Anime Senpai, one of the largest websites for anime and manga, MyAnimeList, was hacked on May 10. On that day, people discovered the phrase “LET’S ALL LOVE LAIN” from Serial Experiments Lain in place of All anime titles.
Is MyAnimeList hacked or crashed?
According to MyAnimeList’s Urgent Maintenance Notice, a “malicious individual” has been tampering with users’ scores and adding code to make pop-ups appear to everyone who visits their profile or list while the attack was going on. Additionally, they are yet to disclose any data breach involving users’ personal data. MyAnimeList users have also been informed that emergency repairs will end on May 12. Similar to IMDb for movies, MyAnimeList allows people to rate and search through the anime library. It has become the world’s largest anime website over time. Some fans believe that the site’s disappearance was the result of a prank by the staff because they had had similar experiences with MyAnimeList in the past.
On April 1, MyAnimeList played a practical joke on users by replacing anime cover photos with cat photos, imitating hackers. Fans who have watched the anime or are familiar with its plot recognize the irony of someone using Serial Experiment Lain to break into MAL. The film focuses on Lain Iwakura, an annoying and reclusive middle school student who receives a strange email from a classmate who turns out not to be dead. Chisa Yomoda, a student, informs Lain that she has left her physical body and is now a resident of an online community called The Wired.
The Lain Experiment has been praised for being ahead of its time and raising questions about the real and virtual worlds, social alienation, mental illness and theology. Serial Experiments Lain, a 13-episode anime series created, produced, and directed by Yasuyuki Ueda with scripts by Chiaki J. Konada and directed by Ryutaro Nakamura, debuted in July 1998. At the Media Arts Festival Japan, the animated film won the Award of Excellence. A graphic novel that resembles a video game was also influenced by the series. Fans can temporarily watch Serial Experimental Lain on Funimation as MAL will not shut down until around 8pm PST on May 12 so they can continue to “love Lain.”
