Season 8 of Below Deck Med almost didn’t happen because of Ruan Irving, and at least Captain Sandy hasn’t forgiven him for that yet.
The first episode of Season 8 hit a snag the moment Bosun Ruan Irving first appeared. Being new to the series, this was his chance to prove himself and make a big impression on both the crew and viewers but sadly, he didn’t.
Because of a document forgery scandal that shook the entire episode, he decided to leave his duties and Captain Sandy Yawn ordered the season to continue without him.
Now that we’re a few episodes in and Ruan has stated on social media that the situation was just a big misunderstanding, fans are ready to give him a second chance. But the captain isn’t here for that.
Is Ruan Irving returning to Below Deck Med?
On October 9, Captain Sandy was a guest on Watch What Happens Live! Featuring Andy Cohen with journalist Jemele Hill.
During the episode, she was asked if she would consider rehiring Ruan not for returning to Season 8 but for the future of the series.
“NO. Not in a million years. No. Sorry,” she quickly replied. To be fair, that wasn’t surprising since his forged documents would have jeopardized everything .
Ruan has yet to publicly respond to Sandy’s response. Maybe at some point she will change her mind.
The captain also revealed on WWHL that she is bringing back former chief stewardess Hannah Ferrier, even though she fired her for bringing drugs on the cruise. Only time will tell if she keeps her word when it comes to Ruan.
