Kai Cenat threatened to leave Twitch if IShowSpeed didn’t get the ban lifted from the platform, and the duo even consulted Twitch’s CEO directly.
As December draws to a close, it will mark two years since IShowSpeed was permanently banned from Twitch. After an explosion of sexism at the time, he switched to rival platform YouTube, quickly becoming the most-watched streamer on the platform.
However, the task of unblocking IShowSpeed on the Amazon-backed streaming site was primarily carried out by a friend and fellow streamer, Kai Cenat. After making some progress, he revealed in early August that he had spoken to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy about unblocking Speed.
Kai now appears to be threatening to leave Twitch if Clancy doesn’t, and the two have personally asked him to revoke Speed’s ban.
During a regular variety broadcast just before the 2023 Streamy Awards, Kai ran into some technical issues with the Twitch backend. In his frustration, he said with a hint of sarcasm, “Convulsions. If Speed is not unblocked then I will leave.”
However, he quickly went on to say, “No, I’m joking, I’m lying.”
That wasn’t Kai’s only plea to Twitch that day, as later at the Streamy Awards, the pair ran into Clancy. Then the speed on camera is kneeling, literally begging for the ban to be lifted.
Kai said in his Instagram story: “If he doesn’t unblock Speed, he’s done [sic].”
Of course, it could all just be Kai and Speed joking around, however, Kai was recently offered to break up Twitch, specifically a $40 million Kick deal, but he turned it down. .
So it remains to be seen what happens in their negotiations, whether Twitch will really bring IShowSpeed back to their platform or one day Kai will actually unite.
