Linus Tech Tips has committed to providing higher quality videos and workflows that allow their employees to take more breaks and ensure quality, but that quality comes at the cost of frequent uploads. frequency and overall viewership.
Maintaining a YouTube empire is not easy. Content creators have found it difficult to maintain consistent uploads, hire editors for their channels, go live, and other things. The most successful creators on YouTube often have entire teams supporting them.
Meanwhile, Linus Tech Tips has more than 200 employees working on multiple YouTube channels, merchandise operations, Hovercraft content and more. Linus’s channel is a giant even among the giants of YouTube, and keeping all those people employed costs a lot of money.
However, churning out so much content took a toll on the staff and ultimately resulted in a number of quality flaws pointed out by Gamers Nexus among others. Linus and the people who run the LTT empire are committed to quality, but it’s increasingly clear why they’re “chasing the algorithm.”
Linus Tech Tips has lost significant views since the YouTube controversy
Although the controversy over LTT’s video quality caused the channel to lose more than 200,000 subscribers and forced them to take a week-long hiatus, the channel’s new videos were still received quite warmly. And while videos are uploaded regularly, they’re not daily like they used to be on the main Linus Tech Tips channel.
That difference in viewership was really shown in the before and after comparison.
Socialblade’s stats show a sharp drop in monthly viewership, a drop that puts his viewership in September much lower than in previous months on the channel. And because Linus Tech Tips started uploading regularly on August 29, these stats were not affected by the week-long channel pause.
As of September, Linus had about 57 million views compared to 93 million in August.
It’s important to remember that part of this decline is because September is not yet over. Additionally, Linus no longer uploads as many videos as before. However, even with all that in mind, his viewership still dropped significantly.

Here’s a sample of Linus Tech Tips’ videos from late July/early August. Even his lowest-viewed video here has 1.2 million views, and although many of the videos on Linus’s main channel are quite green and tend to accumulate viewership over a longer period of time than some other channels, the comparison is still a shocking one.

Many of his more recent videos have yet to break the million view mark, and the ones that are are right up there. That said, his recent video about buying everything in the Mom & Pop store is performing better than a lot of his recent content. It has also been incredibly well received by the community.
Luckily for the channel’s fans, Linus has other sources of income for the channel that are much more stable than YouTube ad revenue. For example, his giant merchandise storefront and exclusive Hovercraft content. That said, a drop in viewership is never a great sign.
Linus’s viewers have become sympathetic to Linus’s cause of trying to gain daily uploads and search algorithms, as many of his viewers have noticed this decline. It remains to be seen whether Linus can right the ship and get back to (or even top) the way his videos worked before the controversy.
