Former Love is Blind contestant Nick Thompson is criticizing the series for not providing counseling support to couples during or after the show.
Nick Thompson and Danielle Ruhl from season 2 of Love is Blind have spoken out in support of better mental health support on the hit reality series. While Nick and Danielle got married at the end of season 2, their story didn’t end happily ever after.
Fans of the series may recall how much conflict the two experienced throughout the second season, leading to many heated arguments before their wedding day. Even though they said “yes” at the altar because of their deep love for each other, the conflicts fans witnessed on the show only multiplied after their wedding.
According to Nick, he wishes the Netflix series would have provided more support to help him and Danielle through their incredibly unique (and sometimes painful) experiment.
Former Love is Blind contestant Nick Thompson mocked the lack of couples counseling
In 2023, Nick Thompson spoke with Dr. Kirk Honda, a therapist and host of the YouTube show Psychology in Seattle. Dr. Kirk Honda has made a series of “therapist reactions” videos, including his reactions to the Love is Blind scenes.
During their interview, Nick revealed to Dr. Kirk his difficult experiences during and after Love is Blind. According to Nick, if he and Danielle could get couples counseling, they would have a better chance of lasting in their marriage.
Unfortunately, they divorced two years after getting married.
During their discussion, Nick suggested that Love is Blind producers incorporate couples counseling into the show.
“Imagine the stigma that would put on couples counseling,” says Nick. “Like if we had someone jump in during a conflict and help us navigate that, and help us communicate with each other better and help people learn to listen a little better… that That will help a lot of people.”
He went on to add, “And it’s also very interesting. Because you’re still experiencing conflict, but you’re learning – hopefully you’re seeing people grow from it. Who knows, maybe it will make you and your spouse watching it at home think, ‘Hey, if they can do it, maybe we can too.’”
