Magnus Carlsen responds to a new set of cheating allegations against GM Hikaru after he set a new blitz rating record just days before.
The rivalry between Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura took an interesting turn on November 21 after the Kick streamer was accused of cheating on Chess.com’s record run.
In a cryptic message, Vladimir Kramnik appeared to take aim at Hikaru’s record by pointing to a player’s recent blitz statistics, raising concerns about cheating.
Although Hikaru called these statements “rubbish,” Magnus Carlsen couldn’t help but tease his friend and rival with a cryptic tweet.
Magnus Carlsen responds to Hikaru’s chess cheating accusations
On social media, Carlsen posted a screenshot of a chess match he was playing with Hikaru, in which the streamer appeared to have turned his bishop into a pawn.
Nakamura ended up losing the game even though he was using the white pieces.
“Winning all these online events, but don’t know how to capture pawns? So interesting,” Carlsen captioned the tweet.
However, Hikaru made a rather witty comeback by joking, “I know you don’t know how knights move, I was hoping you didn’t know how pawns move either!”
This is in reference to a livestream that Magnus Carlsen did with Andrea and Alexandra Botez on Twitch, where he jokingly asked how the knight moves and it became an inside joke in the community. Chess coin.
In any case, it seems that Carlsen does not take the accusations against Hikaru seriously. Both have been very vocal about stopping cheating in their games and have notably come together to accuse Hans Niemann of cheating in matches.
Although Niemann has been cleared of any wrongdoing in over-the-board games, some spectators still believe that he used adult toys to cheat in order to defeat Carlsen at the 2022 Sinquefield Cup .
