A LEGO store has suffered “severe” damage after a delivery truck crashed through a window. Fleeing from the scene, the driver still fled.
There’s a reason “I hope you step on LEGOs” has become a famous response used to express a deep level of outrage.
Stepping on small, hard plastic building blocks is an unpleasant experience that too many people have encountered, and you’d better just wish it on your worst enemy.
However, a popular LEGO store in Grand Rapids could face an even worse fate after a truck crashed through the front window of the Bricks & Minifigs store on Saturday, May 23. 9.
Having to pick up pieces of glass and debris among the broken pieces of the beloved toy, witnesses were “shocked” after the incident.
One employee told WOOD TV8 that the truck “barely appeared out of nowhere,” saying he heard a “loud bang,” followed by “the sound of glass breaking and LEGOs.”
With a major cleanup effort now underway, store owners Julia and Nathan Petersen believe the driver was traveling at at least 50mph when his car went through the traffic light across from the building.
“We hope they’re okay,” Julia said when asked about the driver who fled the scene. It is unclear what caused the accident and a police investigation is still underway.
Witnesses allegedly told Julia that the car had stopped at a traffic light, but then “accelerated through the light and crashed into the store.”
Despite the “terrible” damage, many people still volunteered to help rebuild their beloved stores; “We work with LEGO every day and we know how to rebuild things so we hope to be back in business as soon as possible.”
